Learn Essential Self-Defence Skills

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) stands as a highly effective, real-world combat system with a global reputation. This discipline not only promotes physical fitness and overall well-being but also challenges and refines your strength, flexibility and cardiovascular endurance in ways that few other martial arts can replicate. BJJ not only shapes strong and agile bodies but also imparts invaluable qualities to its practitioners, including discipline, unwavering dedication, a focused mindset and the virtue of patience. At Fight Club Townsville, we run Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu lessons for all levels of experience.

We impart the fundamental principles of key positions within Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Each position is comprehensively explored from both offensive and defensive perspectives. Our warm-up regimen comprises drills designed to enhance physical attributes relevant to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Following the technical instruction phase, students are paired up to engage in isolated positional sparring.

This live sparring method allows beginners to directly apply the techniques they've learned, commencing from the precise position introduced in class. This approach ensures a systematic introduction of techniques, enabling a progressively deeper comprehension of the goals and movements associated with each position. Additionally, our students are educated in principles that optimise the learning process of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, accompanied by regular personalised feedback to enhance their performance.

Submission Wrestling Sessions

In addition to our Gi classes, we offer No-Gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, also referred to as "Submission Wrestling." This variation utilises the same techniques and fundamental principles present in traditional Gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

While some minor adjustments are necessary for the transition between Gi and No-Gi, training in the Gi remains essential, even if your primary focus is No-Gi competition. It's worth noting that the majority of ADCC Champions, the most prominent No-Gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tournament, predominantly train in Gi. As an example, Marcelo Garcia, widely recognised as one of the foremost No-Gi competitors globally, dedicates five days a week to Gi training and one day to No-Gi.

At Fight Club Townsville, we allocate a specific day for No-Gi instruction and actively participate in both Gi and No-Gi competitions.
